Not because I was obsessed with the buxom digital superstar, or a mad Tomb Raider fan, but because it was the first time I felt the world had finally perceived videogame culture the same way I did.
For eight years I've been waiting to feel that way again. To find a magazine that recognises that videogame cultrue has matured and evolved; that for a growing number of male and female gamers like myself, videogames are much more than interactive entertainment.
Lara, Counter-Strike, Mario, Street Fighter, World of WarCraft, Link, Final Fantasy, Need for Speed, GTA, Pac-Man, Master Chief, Rygar, Doom… to us these are not just game titles and videogame characters-they are cultural icons: an art form, a common language, a matter of personal identity. In them, and through our experiences of growing up in an ever-evolving videogame cultrue, we have found-and continue to find-inspiration, passion and meaning.
If the mere mention of these names elicits within you any kind of emotional response-excitement, anticipation, nostalgia, even love and loss-then JumpButton is your new best friend.
This blogazine, which began life late in 2005 as an Australian, national, print-based magazine, is what you've always wanted but never found. It is a magazine that focuses on videogame culture as both an art form and a way of life. A magazine that believes gaming is as much about who we are, as it is about what we play and how we play it. And now, it is also a community.
